１ はじめに
英語でも普通に
1+1＝２
とか数式書いていいのですが、どう読むの？ってなると迷う人も多いのでは？
ここでは簡単な数学英語について取り上げます。
２ 基数
基数＝cardinal numbers、こういうと難しく感じますが要するにただの数字のことです。
0 zero 10 ten 20 twenty

で、３０から９９までは２１から２９までのようにこれに -one,-twoとつけていくことで３２，３２・・と表現できます。
例えばsixty-one,sixty-two・・・のように。
100 a hundred ※aの代わりにoneを使ってもよいです。
101 a hundred one
で１０１から１９９までは上記のやり方でa hundredの後ろに１００より小さい部分を書いていくだけです。
１１２ならa hundred twelveなど。
２００から９００までも
同じです。
２００にしたいなら two hundredで、９９以下の数字を後ろにつければいいです。
３００ならthree hundredで同様に。
３２０ならthree hundred twentyとかですね。
1000 a thousand ※aの代わりにoneを使ってもよいです。
1001 a thousand one
１００１から１９９９まではa thousandの後ろに上記の手順に従って小さい数字をつけていくだけです。
１４５９なら one thousand four hundred fifty-nineなどです。
英語には１００００に相当する語はないので
ten thousand
となります。
100000 １０万なら
a hundred thousand
です。
なお、１００万は
million １００万
という語があります。
１２３万９５５９なら
one million two hundred thirty-nine thousand five hundred fifty-nine
となります。
また英語には億に相当する語はなく、１０億に相当する語があります。
100000000 one hundred million １億
1000000000 billion １０億
これより小さい数字のつけ方もこれまでと同様です。
数字ではありませんが、日常的に用いられる数を表す表現もあります。
12 dozen ※１ダース、２ダースとかよく言うあれのことですね。
20 score
2 couple
など。
例えば１８なら
a dozen and a halfなどと言えます。a halfはdozen＝１２の半分ってことで６。
１２+６で１８ということですね。
two score years and ten で５０年とか。
tens of thousands (of ～） で「何万という～」の意味です。
だいたいこれくらいが通常使う数字でしょうか。
なお、英語では通常文頭ではアラビア数字ではなく文字で書くことが好まれます。
1000 is a big number.ではなく
A thousand is a big number.などようにです。
３ 序数
序数＝ordinal numbers。第一、第二・・に相当する表現です。firstなど一部を除き、数字に-thをつけて作ります。
語尾がeで終わるときはeをのけて-thをつけます。
ninethではなくninthです。
語尾がveで終わるときはveをfに変えて-thをつけます。
fivethではなくfifthです。
語尾がyで終わるときはyを-iesに変えて、sの部分を-thに置き換えて作ります。
第三十番目（の）ならthirtiethです。
第一番目（の） first

第五番目（の） fifth
第六番目（の） sixth
第七番目（の） seventh
第八番目（の） eighth
第九番目（の） ninth（-thをつけるときeをのける点に注意です）

第十三番目（の） thirteenth

第２１番目（の）からあとは数字の時のようにtwenty-の後ろに第一から第九までの序数をつけるだけです。
第二十六番目（の）なら、twenty-sixthです。
第二十番目（の） twentieth
第二十一番目（の）twenty-first
・・・
第二十四番目（の）twenty-fourth
・・・
第百番目（の） (one)hundredth＝１００ｔｈ
第百一番目（の） (one)hundred (and)first＝１０１ｓｔ

第百二十六番目（の）(one)hundred (and)twenty-sixth＝１２６ｔｈ

第千番目（の） (one)thousandth＝1000th

数字の最後の部分を序数に変えるだけです。

第二千番目（の） two thousandth=2000th
日付の日の部分をこの序数で表現します。
例
５月９日 ＝ May (the) ninth ＝ May ９
＝ the ninth of May(格式ばった言い方）
４ 分数
分数＝fractions。
分子＝numerator
分母＝denominator
分子が複数ならthの後にｓをつけます。
1/8 one-eighth
2/9 two ninths
1/2 a half
1/4 a quarter
3/4 three-quarters = three fourths
2/100 two one-hundredths
123/45９ one hundred twenty-three over four hundred
fifty-nine
数字が大きくなるとoverを用いて
分子分母ともに普通の数字で
表現することが一般的です。
帯分数は次のようにです。２と７分の２は
３
2 ― = 2 and three - sevenths ＝ twenty - three over seven
7
などと表現します。
５ 小数
小数＝decimal fractions。
小数点をpointで表現します。
0.12６ ＝ (zero-) point-one-two-six
1８.8６ =
ninteen-point-eight-six
